Amid women’s important roles in any given society, why do they always get the biggest share of casualty during times of wars? While mostly men are engaged in war, why do women suffer the greatest harm? For instance, they are recipients of disturbing forms of sexual violence. In some places, they are forced to different forms of exploitation for them to survive and support their families.
International organizations deemed it important to give women a chance to play “the bigger” roles in the society. As they were often discriminated in places where inequitable laws exist, there are now laws governing women’s participation. Nowadays, women are recognized as part of peace keeping processes. They are involved in studying prospects for sustainable peace and gender perspectives in decision making that strengthen prospects for sustainable peace.

The great thing on having women have a priority role to play in creating decisions is that they’ll be able to air their side of the matter. A woman’s perspective – not entirely speaking in a discriminatory manner – will provide various, if not unique, insights on matters needed for attention. Also, a woman representative will allow unbiased views and cues to be decided upon. Such is the importance of having the fairer sex a larger participation on governing bodies – this will allow equality, a necessary step that will potentially lead onto peace.
Women now are involved in activities that help strengthen their leadership skills and expertise on important subjects which include peace and gender related issues. There are two goals that may be achieved in including women to peace and security initiatives. These are the following:
1.Women are given the chance to participate in decision-making. By creating agencies, they can contribute as peacemakers and peace builders. During peace talks, they can give their thoughts on conflict prevention, peace processes and operations.
2.This will cause to lessen and eventually end sexual violence. They will have increase in self esteem and will be given respect and great regard. This will call for an end to conflict related sexual violence.

Couple of decades back, in times of conflict on economic and social issues where women suffer the furthermost harm, why were women less involved in the processes? For instance, before, they are poorly represented in international and formal peace processes. We need not look into the past for answers. Preventing women from becoming part of these movements defies some of their rights. And by having – and with proper acknowledgement – women leaders, the world may attain peace.
